SETH'S BAR, COCKERMOUTH WINS AWARD

Friday 19 June 2026

On Saturday 13th June 2026, members of the West Cumbria Branch of CAMRA presented Seth's Bar on Market Place, Cockermouth with the Pub of the Season award.

This recognises the fact that Emily Hartley and her staff run a free house that serves real ale in tip top condition.

Seth's Bar is housed in a building built in 1761 which years ago used to be The Sun Inn on what used to be the main road into the town from the east.

Historically, there used to be a theatre at the rear of this building, with records showing that performances dated back to 1775.

Following the closure of the The Sun Inn, the building became an antique shop, before reverting back to a public house named Bar 1761.

It was named Seth's Bar about 10 years ago.
